Paul is a familiar face on TV around the time of Eurovision and has been commenting regularly on the event for more than 10 years. He has been the pundit for the BBC’s live coverage of the semi-finals and has appeared on a variety of television and radio programmes in the UK as well as abroad.

In 2011 he published his PhD on the competition and between 2015 and 2018 he worked behind the scenes as part of the communications team of the Eurovision Song Contest. He was part of the international jury for the French national selection for Eurovision, Destination Eurovision, in 2019 and in 2023 he appeared as a jury member on Eurosong, the Irish selection for the contest.

Paul is available for media and speaking engagements as well as consultancy work and can comment on virtually any aspect of the Eurovision Song Contest, providing unique insights from his time working behind the scenes.

Paul has attended Eurovision since 2000 and in 2014 published his book, The Modern Fairy Tale: Nation Branding, national identity and the Eurovision Song Contest in Estonia.

In addition to his PhD and wider research projects, Paul has also been a regular visitor to Ukraine since 2007 and can comment on the impact of the current situation on the song contest.
